Between the hustle and bustle of Mercedes Benz NYFW, I needed to make time to shoot some special pieces with Leonard Kastel, an up and coming fashion editorial and ad photographer. It was refreshing to work with someone as laid back a Lenny, considering the general uptightness of the city. Don’t get me wrong, there are few cities (if that) I love more than NYC. Being so laid back in a city of chaos made for a great shooting vibe. As we were shooting, Steve Harvey and his team prank photobombed us, Ben Stiler took photos with anxious fans outside of his hotel, two cab drivers got into it over a red light and I got the leftover whiffs of the garabge lined up along the street the night from before! That’s the magic of this place, something is always happening!
It’s funny, because when I explain the city to my boys (like i did above) they look at me with blank stares like “why do you love it there so much?” I decided to break them in by watching Home Alone 2. It’s the one where Kevin accidentally takes the wrong airplane to New York and racks up a massive bill at The Plaza. My boys are now obsessed with the idea of NYC and beg me to let them go to the plaza. I guess I sunk my own ship. Really though, I can’t wait to take them sometime. Part of the joy of being a parent is experiencing life all over again through the eyes of your children. xo
